The City of Belgrade is the founder and patron of 11 major cultural events. Beside these there are a further 40 smaller events which take place every year, as well as a considerable number of occasional ones.
FEST - International Film Festival
The Festival was founded in 1971 and is in the form of a review. The leading films of world cinema are shown here as well as the winners and other entries from other festivals. It takes place from the last Friday in February to the first Sunday in March.

International Jeunesses Musicales Competition
Founded in 1969, the Competition brings together young artists up to 30 years old to compete in the following categories: solo singing, composition, instrumental soloists and chamber orchestras. It is held in the second half of March and lasts for 10 to 15 days.

Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival
This has been in existence since 1959, when it was known as the Yugoslav Documentary and Short Film Festival. It is a competitive festival, with the films grouped in the following genres: documentary, art-house, animated and experimental films, and are submitted in the form of films or video recordings. The special non-competitive program is made up of retrospectives from foreign festivals, life-time achievement awards, selections of films from specific countries, etc. It takes place in the last week of March over four or five days.

BELEF Belgrade Summer Festival
The International Summer Festival stages musical, theatrical, dance and multimedia performances. It is held in the surroundings of Kalemegdan, Ada Ciganlija, Belgrade streets and squares, theatres and other halls in the city. It takes place during July and August.

BITEF - Belgrade International Theatre Festival
The Festival was founded in 1967 as an international showcase of theatrical works, and of new trends in world and Serbian theatre. The Festival takes the form of a competition and is held in the auditoriums of Belgrade theatres, the Sava Centre and city halls. It takes place in September and lasts for about 15 days.

Joy of Europe - European Children's Gathering Children between 7 and 14 perform their own artistic creations: musical, music and drama and painting. This festival of children from the countries of Europe is hosted by Belgrade schools and the families of those taking part. The event takes place in the Children's Cultural Centre, the Sava Centre, Ada Ciganlija and in various galleries. It takes place during the first week in October and lasts a week.

BEMUS - The Belgrade Music Festival The Festival was founded in 1969 as an international musical event where ensembles and soloists perform works of classical and ethno music as well as works by modern composers. Concerts are held in the Sava Centre, the Ilija M. Kolarac Foundation and other city concert halls. It takes place during the first half of October and lasts about a fortnight.

October Salon
This is a display of the best new works of domestic authors in the field of fine arts and applied art and design. The exhibits are housed in the Cvijeta Zuzorić Art Pavilion and the galleries of ULUS, Zvono, Artget, Faculty of Fine Arts, Pedagogical Museum, Belgrade Youth Centre and the Graphic Collective. It takes place during October and lasts 25 days.

Belgrade Book Fair
An international event where publishers and bookshops exhibit the work of domestic and foreign publishing houses and show off their full range of publications, and where antique books are also on offer. A special part of the program is the presentation of the country Guest of Honour. The whole event is oriented towards sales and is held in the Belgrade Fair halls. It takes place at the end of October and beginning of November, and lasts a week.

Sopot Film Festival
This was conceived as a competitive festival for producers of domestic feature films. It takes place in the first half of July in the auditorium of the Sopot Cultural Centre and lasts about 5 days.

Belgrade Jazz Festival
This international festival, comprising a series of concerts by domestic and foreign performers, is held in the Belgrade Youth Centre, The hall of the Belgrade Trade Union House, Kolarac Foundation and other venues. It takes place at the end of October and lasts about 5 days.
