uos.gifThe Open Heart Street
On the first of January each year the Tourist Organization of Belgrade organises the traditional Open Heart Street gathering in Svetogorska and Makedonska streets in cooperation with the Stari grad municipality and the Atelje 212 Theatre. The event began on New Year 1988/89 as a cultural artistic happening and grew out of the tradition whereby actors from Atelje 212 take on the role of waiters and maitres d'hôtel in the Srpska kafana, and serve the restaurant staff. Actors, singers, street orchestras, jugglers, circus performers, folklore ensembles and others take part in the program. Besides the street performances, puppet shows and New Year carriage and sleigh rides are laid on for the children.
